Saint John Looking at a Water Rate Hike

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Well if you check in to cbc.ca you may have seen something that doesn’t sound to appealing.

Saint John businesses worry about potential water rate hike

Now I really think they should do a follow up article on Saint John Residents worry about potential water rate hike, I mean a potential 21% rate hike for Residential is alot, and this won’t just affect home owners anyone who is renting can probably expect rent prices to increase accordingly. I mean what landlord is going to swallow a 21% rate increase this is assuming thier rate increase is the same as residential homeowners.

Just thought we should make mention of this so that hopefully residents of Saint John will get to have a say before this happens. Keep in mind this hasn’t happened yet just potential from “a consultant’s report”.  I want to know where the consultant lives and what they paid this consultant anyone know where I can get that information? I mean if the consultant isn’t from around here then as a resident of Saint John I’ll take his opinion with a grain of salt and he can give back my tax money since to go along with this everyone can expect property taxes to increase this year as well.

Also anyone know if the city vechiles are still dodge chargers that are white with the saint john logo if so i think they should return those and get pontiac wave’s to drive around and the extra money can go into the water? anyone agree?

Can Skate Saint John

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

If anyone out there wants to have thier kids to learn to skate, I highly recommend the Can Skate program here in Saint John (http://www.sjsc.ca/ ) We signed up our two boys this year and the staff is really great working with the kids in a one on one and group fashion as needed for all different skill levels.

The cost isn’t too expensive for a full year sign up, and remember this also qualifies for the Fitness Tax Credit in New Brunswick. Just one of the many things available here in Saint John, for people looking to keep thier youths active this winter.

For those of you who are older looking to get out and skate they have programs for you as it’s never to late to learn, and if your looking for information on public skating around the city take a quick spin over to Saint John’s community site -http://www.saintjohn.ca/services_recreation_arenas.cfm

Oil Prices Drop? It’s a Bad Thing?

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Wow so big Oil has decided that they are going to cut supplies to increase prices;

Oil tumbles under $64 a barrel, OPEC cuts output

I guess no longer receiving billion dollar profits every month isn’t their cup of tea. They are still making more money than they did a year ago but it’s just not enough, even though the cost of everything has gone up and now oil is way down and we still are paying 101.5 at the pumps here in Saint John.

Wait are we not regulated in New Brunswick where is the price decrease we should be getting there is no reason for it to be at $1 it should be around 70 cents per liter.  When the storm might hit somewhere prices jumped 13 cents and when it didn’t even touch it took 2 full weeks for the price to come back down to the level of before the storm scare started.

Like most Canadians I’ve had enough they don’t need to cut supplies in Nov. because in November demand is going to go up as people need heating oil, they want to cut supply so instead of it staying at $64 a barrel they can jump it to $100 by saying oh we didn’t know demand would be that high and now our machines aren’t working right. Sounds like what they have done for the last 8 months, and we had an overstock according to this article but they told us we were on short supply, hmmm sounds fishy to me.

I want to know when those truckers are going to lower their added on prices, and the stores lower the prices on their goods, and grocery items to come back down in price as they all complained how it was more expensive to get it but we have had what 2 months of gas price drops. Also our dollar is down so we should be able to sell more they said they had to raise prices and weren’t making profits because of a high dollar remember.

Now has any of these groups lowered their prices in adjustment? Nope… and they wonder why none of us have ran out to go shopping as they all try to keep record high profits instead of just taking the small profit on top. To all of those groups that will start by saying oh but salaries and materials have gone up in price as dollar has less purchasing power well….a profit is after a company has paid all of it’s bills…until then it’s not a profit.

CBC Hockey Night In Canada Song

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Hey This is NHouseman telling you to Vote on your favorite song for CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada song. Voting starts October 4th. Starting Monday September 29th on the Hour w/ George Stoumboulopoulos he will be announcing one of the top five semi-finalists each show. Then as i said ocotber 4th you choose out of those 5 which will be CBC’s Hockey Night In Canada’s Theme song. I’ve browsed and listened to a few of the songs on http://anthemchallenge.cbc.ca/. it will be a tough choice to replace the infamous song which CTV owns now. on a side note CTV re-vamped that song, they could have ruined the essence of the song or they could have made it better, I say if it was already good why change it. so tune in to the hour listen to the top 5 and vote for your favorite song because we will have to be listening to that song every saturday night for this year at least maybe longer.

Saint John Westside Construction

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Well over the last year or so there has been a lot of development and more continuing. You will see the New Saint John Energy headquarters(completed and open), Shoppers Drug Mart (opening first of October) at Macallister mall, and Down the road you will see a building I think will be a home depot by Canadian tires for how the peak looks but i’m not 100% sure.

However in 2009 there will be new development completed to Zellers, I think it’s great that more and more stores are opening and renovating on the West Side of Saint John and not just because that is where I live.
