9

September 9th, 2009

So, we went to see the movie 9 tonight.. I liked the whole 9/9/09 thing.. was pretty cool.. anyways

So, I LOVE Tim Burton and when I saw the preview for this movie, I absoloutley had to see it. I was not dissapointed with the animation and detail, the movie was AMAZINGLY done. I was blown away with the visuals and the sound quality… I couldn’t have been more impressed. The plot however.. I didn’t care much for. You spent too much time wondering what the heck was going on, and the end (where loose ends are usually tied up) was really dissapointing because.. well, I still don’t know what’s going on.   Maybe if I put on my spiritual detective hat and watch it again I could figure it out.

I’ll give it a 7 because where it lacks in plot, it makes up for in everything else. Good movie. Your ‘older’ kids will LOVE it.

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince Movie

August 2nd, 2009

Well i won’t say it’s a bad movie it’s good but I feel that it was very disappointing in some aspects. Warning many Spoilers.

After this I’ll wonder if I will even bother seeing the next on in Theater’s this one i should have waited for it to be released on DVD.

1. Professor slughorn in the movie is a complete dolt and your surprised if anything intelligent comes out of his mouth, but unlike in the book where he’s a boisterous fun loving kinda guy in the movie he’s more illustrated as a bumbling buffoon who seems surprised that he is capable of speech and very sketchy. This is not how I thought the character should be illustrated.

2. To me book 6 is about understanding Voldermort and understanding his weaknesses so that Harry can have a chance to finish him. In the movie though they don’t show the crucial memories that show the locket, cup, or the ring. Also they make Dumbldore seem Dumbledum with him not having any idea of what the horcrux’s could be at all. In the movie he seems surprised by the fact that Tom Riddle even made one.

In the book they is focused on heavily as it’s crucial for Harry to understand that Voldermort collects things of great magical history and power, and that he guesses based on the memory shown that he knows what some of the horcrux’s are – The Locket, The Diary, The Ring, The Cup, and Nagini The Snake. However he taught Harry (in the book) to know what to look for to what he who must not be named value’s, and that he wouldn’t use just any object to hide a piece of his soul. This was all glazed over in the movie.

3. I understand you cannot put the entire book into one movie that some things have to be cut, well that’s fine but stick close to the story. Why add the burrow being blown up over christmas holidays when there was nothing like that in book 6 at all. You could have left that part out and put in the real fight after doubledore dies that took place at hogwarts as the death eaters ran away.

Overall i feel the move tried to take in all of the different plots the book lay’d out such as the qritich delimma with ron. The multiple love stories for harry, ron and hermini, The anguish that harry carry’s, malfoy’s under handed dealings, and Voldermot. It felt very rushed and hacked together so it doesn’t feel like a long movie but your left wondering well that didn’t make sense. I have no idea how Harry is suppose to continue on with Doubledore’s work without any knowledge being passed on. Or why they used Luna Love Good for so many extra things like the train.

When the movie strays away from the book they didn’t just side step they leaped to another track completely. However as a movie it’s good with some cool effects, just doesn’t fit in with the books and almost feels like it doesn’t fit in with the other movies they have already done. After this I’ll wonder if I will even bother seeing the next on in Theater’s this one i should have waited for it to be released on DVD.

So.. like we mentioned before, I’m just your basic, average movie lover.. so keep that in mind if you want to critize my opinion :)

So, I spent 2 hours and 43 minutes of my life with “The Watchmen” the other night… I can’t say that it was a complete waste of my life, but it was close.

So, I was expecting a cool superhero movie, and, well, while it was about superhero’s, it was more about their dark bad sides than it was about anything you’d normally find in a superhero movie. The first hour is all about how much of an A**ho*e one of the superhero’s is.. and they’re not even really superheros. Mostly they’re all normal regular humans with a little more strength and smarts than some of the rest of us. There’s only one with actual superpowers.

There are a couple (a COUPLE) of good fight seens, A LOT of shock and awe violence, and I have to admit the effects aren’t that bad, the music is pretty good and the acting itself is pretty good (Jeffery Dean Morgan and Billy Crudup were awesome) . I found it overall pretty boring, and slow.

If you’re a fan of the Graphic Novels, then you’ll no doubt love the movie, but if you don’t know anything about them, and are finding out who The Watchmen are for the first time, then you may or may not like the movie, it’s all about personal preference. I give it a generous 6.

Oh, and one more thing. Dr. Manhattan.. doesn’t like to wear clothes. Just warning you.

June Sleeper Hits

June 30th, 2009

So, I want to let you all know about 2 suprisingly good movies that you may have never heard of  being released to video tomorrow.

First, is “12 Rounds”. Starring John Cena (professional wrestler), it’s suprisingly good. I wasn’t expecting anything spectacular, and I actually thought it was going to suck, so I wasn’t set up to be dissapointed if it blew. Basically, Danny (John Cena) is a cop, who accidentally gets a criminal’s girlfriend dead. One year later, the criminal wants revenge. So, he has 12 Rounds of challenges for Danny to pass, and if he does, he lives. whooooooo

The action is pretty good, script is pretty good, acting is pretty good. For a movie I hadn’t heard of, it was a pleasing suprise.

The second, is “The Betrayed”. It moslty stars Melissa George (Sadie from Grey’s Anatomy) as a woman who is kidnapped along with her son because her husband is suspected of stealing millions of dollars from a crime boss. The result is a woman who realizes that she doesn’t know who she married, and has to find clues to the money or she and her son die. It’s a psychological drama that will keep you wondering and suprise you atleast twice. It’s really not that bad of a movie.

Neither one of these movies got very good reviews, and if it’s because they were lower budget and didn’t have REAL Hollywood stars in them, then it wasn’t a very good reason. Both movies were not bad at all. I’ll give them both a 6. So, if you’re looking for a new movie this Tuesday, these 2 are good ones to get. They’re a little off the radar, but sometimes, the best discoveries are the ones you didn’t think you’d make.
