The Happening.. what?

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

So, yesterday, I watched The Happening. I was really dissapointed when I didn’t get to see it in the theatre, because it looked like a really good movie. It had lots of my favorite things in it.. M. Night Shyamalan, Mark Wahlburg, and horror. See.. lots of my favorite things. When I watched it yesterday, I was SOOOOOO glad that I didn’t spend 20$ to see it at the theatre. (20$ ? You might be asking.. yes.. 10$ for the ticket and 10$ for the candy. Sheesh)

The script is crappy (but Wahlburg has a couple decent lines, all of them comedic), the plot is crappy ( unknown force making people kill themselves while not so bright 10th grade science teacher tries to find out why), it’s all around not a good movie. When the movie is over, you sit there wondering wether you just watched something real, or imagined the whole thing.. but then you look over at the clock, realized an hour and a half HAS actually passed, and sigh.

I was really dissapointed. So I gave it a 2, and wrote it on the list of movies that I didn’t really like, but would watch at 3am if I couldn’t sleep and there was nothing else on tv.

OWN Iron Man tomorrow.. I’m gonna!

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Okay, so I didn’t have the time to write a review on Iron Man, but since it’s going to be released tomorrow I’m going to take the liberty to write one now.

If you’re a comic book fan.. or if you don’t know anything about comics at all, you’ll LOVE this movie. Quite frankly, I loved it. It’s got it all.. a snobby rich boy who sells weapons because he makes tonnes of money, gone soft after a life altering experience, throw in a little superhero and VOILA.. A fantabulous movie.

I have to admit that I was a little skeptical at first because I really don’t like Robert Downey Jr.  He always has that.. untrustworthy, slime ball look to him, but I have to admit…. he was PERFECT in this movie. I can usually think of someone better to play a part, but I can’t think of anyone better than him. I mean, he might not be the best superhero ever, but I think he’s the best actor to ever play a superhero.  Kudos RDJ!

The action is awesome and not too “all over the place”, the plot is great, the effects are very well done, the script has everything it needs and nothing more.. I could go on forever. I was completely engrossed for 2 hours and 5 minutes and the time went too fast.  Oh, and if you keep watching after the credits are done rolling.. you’ll get a suprise!

So, I gave it an 8 .. and I’m going to make George buy it tomorrow to add to my movie collection.

“Is it better to be feared or respected? I say, is it too much to ask for both?”

Bangkok Dangerous

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

So, I went to see Bangkok Dangerous last night, and…. here’s the review.

Enter Nicholas Cage.. aka.. Joe.. a depressed, socially inept, moody hit man.   There’s a lot of the movie dedicated to close ups of him, and his thoughtful monologuing.  There isn’t alot of action, but there ARE some gross scenes at the ending that you NEVER saw coming.

I can’t tell you anything else.. because I’d give it all away. But, here’s what I think in general …. The trailer was the best part of the movie.

Death Race, 2008

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Firstly, I have to say that I actually like Jason Statham aka Frankenstein in this movie. I’m not really a big fan of his, but I think he did a super good job in this movie.  So, now lets review..

This movie has lots of good things. A pretty good plot, smokin’ hot actors, fantabulous vehicles ( I LOVE the  ’Stang), and.. some unnecessary death and violence.   I didn’t really like ‘most’ of the action scenes. They were really choppy and made me sea sick. There was too much cutting in and out to another place in the movie, and the only REALLY good action scene is when ‘Machine Gun Joe’ and ‘Frankenstein’ take on a wicked cool heavily armed truck.

I don’t want to give too much of it away. So, I’ll give it a 5 and leave it at that. But I’ll tell ya, if you want to see a movie in the same category that I personally think is better.. then rent Mad Max 2. I give that an 8 any day.

Step Brothers and Flying Fish

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

So, last week we went to 2 movies. Step Brothers, and Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D. Now, allow me to tell you what I thought.

Step Brothers was super funny, but in a crass.. jack-assy sort of way.  It had crude sexual humor, said the “eff” word about a million times, but in very strategically placed spots, I got to see a set of testicles.. (which I never thought I would see.. so it was suprising), and Will Ferrel wasn’t as bad as he normally is. So, all in all it was funny, and pretty good. If you want to laugh coke out your nose, and you aren’t too anal retentive, then it’s for you. I’ve read nothing but bad reviews about the movie. “It’s too immature.. Will Ferrel took another step down… it was the worst movie I ever saw… etc.. etc..”   To those people I say..  be honest with yourselves and admit that it was funny as anything else that’s funny. I do have one bad thing to say, there were 2 lines in the previews that were NOT in the movie.   These 2 lines were the ONLY reason that George wanted to go, and he was super dissapointed when they didn’t appear in the movie.  All in all , I give it a 6.7

Now, we took our kids to Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D, they’re 3 and 5 (just throwing that out there for all those people wondering if they can take their kids or not). They loved the movie. There was crap jumping out of the screen at them and stuff was moving in ways they had never seen. It was a life changing experience for my kids. Seriously, not joking.

As for me, I thought it was pretty entertaining, a little funny, and the effects were good, but I have seen better. For kids, it was the greatest, but for an adult.. it’s good for a time waster.. it doesn’t make you wish that you had that time back, but you don’t leave quoting the movie and talking about how funny/fantastic/awesome/cool it was. So, basically, it’s good, dumb fun. Nothing to write home to mom about. I’d take the kids to it again because they loved it, but I don’t think it’s going to be on my movie wish list when it comes out.  I only give it a 5.. cause it could have been worse..

And alas.. the challenge.  Can you watch 2 Brendan Fraser movies in one day without losing brain cells? I don’t think I can. Can you? Let me know if it’s possible.
